Tanknado Privacy Policy
Short version: Tanknado has no accounts, no ads and no third-party trackers. Your progress stays on your device. To fix crashes and see which chapters people finish, the game sends anonymous play stats and crash reports to our own server; you can turn this off in Settings > Anonymous stats. Online play sends the callsign you type and your moves to our game server while you play. Voice chat is off unless you turn it on.
Who we are
Tanknado is made by Binary Helix ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the game does with information about you.
What stays on your device
The game saves your settings, unlocked chapters, best results and tutorial progress in the app's private storage (web storage inside the app, also called localStorage). It also keeps a random install number it made up (see below). This data does not leave your device except as described here.
Anonymous play stats and crash reports
Unless you turn off Settings > Anonymous stats, the game sends these to our own server (tanks.multiplayers.ai, run by Binary Helix; no analytics company is involved):
- the game version and the platform (web, Android, iOS or desktop);
- a random install number created on your device and a random number for each play session, so we can count players and sessions without knowing who anyone is;
- game events: a session starting (with the screen size, whether it is a touch screen, and the language setting), a chapter or battle starting and ending (the chapter, the result, how long it took, kills, the graphics quality and the tank chosen);
- crash reports: the error message, the first lines of the program's stack trace and the page it happened on.
We do not store your IP address with these reports, and they contain no name, email, contacts, location, photos, advertising ID or device ID. They are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically. We use them only to fix bugs and improve the game, and never sell or share them.
Online play
When you play online (Quick Match, co-op or a private room), the game connects to our game server and sends the callsign you type, your tank choice and your moves. Other players in the room see your callsign; the server replaces an offensive callsign with a neutral one. Rooms exist only while they are in use; the server does not keep a record of matches or callsigns afterwards. To limit abuse, the server briefly holds the connection's IP address in memory to cap how many rooms and joins one address can make; it is not written to disk.
Voice chat
Voice chat is not available in the current version, and the game does not use the microphone. If it returns, it will be off by default, ask for microphone permission first, and send your voice only while you hold the talk button, to the players in your current online room, without recording or storing it. This policy will be updated before then.
Purchases
In the apps, Acts II and III of Dead Signal are a one-time in-app purchase. Google Play or the Apple App Store takes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy; we never see your card, your name or your store account. The app asks the store only whether this purchase belongs to the store account on the device, and remembers the answer on the device so the acts open offline.
On tanknado.com the same purchase is made through Stripe Checkout, run by Stripe, Inc. under its privacy policy; we never see your card number. Stripe gives our server your email address, the purchase and whether it was paid or refunded. We keep these to open Acts II and III in your browser, to send you a restore link if you ask for one on another browser, and for our tax and accounting records, for as long as the law requires. We do not send marketing email. To have your purchase record deleted, email us; the acts will then no longer restore on the web.
Stores and device backups
Google Play and the Apple App Store handle the download of the app under their own privacy policies. We receive only the standard, aggregated statistics they give every developer. If you have device backups turned on, your phone may include the game's save data in your personal backup; we have no access to it.
Children
Tanknado contains combat and crude soldier humor and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices and deleting data
- Turn off anonymous stats in Settings > Anonymous stats. Nothing more is sent after that.
- Delete local game data by uninstalling the app (on Android you can also clear its storage in Settings > Apps > Tanknado > Storage), or by clearing the site data for tanknado.com in your browser.
- Because the stats are anonymous, we cannot tell which records are yours. If you want them deleted anyway, email us your install number (the code after "install" under Settings > Anonymous stats) and we will remove them.
Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how the game handles data, we will update this page and the date above before that version is released, and update the store privacy information to match.
